DECEMBER 2018
Winter Hikes and Snowshoe Trails December 2018 to February 2019
Remember these are winter hikes/snowshoe/or ski trips and weather may cause cancellation. Leaders should also always check avalanche warnings (Avalanche Canada website www.avalanchecanada.com) andconditions in the Metro Vancouver parks for the day of their hike( Metro Vancouver website). Snow tires on cars are advised – all season work well from spring to fall but do not do well on our black ice covered with snow local roads.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 2
WALK:Minnekehada loop
Lunch will be eaten at the high point along the trail or at the picnic tables close to the lodge if weather co-operates. Bring good boots and poles – the trail may be wet. The walk/hike (7 km if we take in all the viewpoints) will end at the old hunting lodge ( open 1:00 to 4:00) where a fire will be burning. Alas the Christmas program with Santa and the dancing dogs will not be offeredthis year. Meet at the parking lot close to the lake at 10:00.

East Flank Trail and part of the new Skywalk South This energetic trail – a new hike – leads to a gorgeous tarn and we will just explore part of it. This superbly built trail climbs northwest steepening as it passes over rocky outcrops. After 1 hour on Skywalk South the forest thins and snags are abundant. Soon colourful meadows of arctic lupine, mountain arnica, sitka valerian and subalpine dairsy are predominant and the glaciated crown of Rainbow Mountain comes into view. Passing a pond and crossing a brook, the trail gains elevation over increasingly rocky terrain. Beside a gorgeous tarn, 4km up Skywalk South we will have our lunch. Meet at St. David's Church at 8:30 for carpooling.
Leaders Aileen Stalker and Tony Keen 604-734-9391

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21
WALK
Fisherman’s Trail North Vancouver Today's walk will be 11.5km round trip through the Seymour River valley with views of Mount Seymour and Elsay and also Dog Mountain. Meet at 9.30 - directions as follows - leave Highway 1 Upper Levels Highway at the Capilano College exit (exit 22) and drive north on Lillooet Road through a cemetery. The public part of the road veers right to a parking lot just short of a turning circle and a gate barring access to the upper valley.
