Please note that Pathfinders Events are open to members in good standing who have completed an application and release form. Guests accompanying a member do so at their own risk.




Car Pool Rates
Out of town, more than an hour away, $20.00. Local, less than one hour away, $10.00.

Pathfinders Guidelines for Participants
1) Phone the trip leader by the Friday before the trip. If you must cancel, do so in plenty of time.
2) Obtain information from the leader to determine if the trip is within your capabilities.
3) Make sure your boots, clothing and equipment are appropriate for the activity.
4) Stay with the group. Make sure the leader or end-person knows where you are at all times, even if you simply step off the trail to answer “nature’s call”

CYCLISTS – REMEMBER YOUR CYCLING PROTOCOL
The BC Provincial Motor Vehicle Act says:-
1)Wear a bicycle helmet of an approved standard.
2)Ride single file on busy roads or highways.
3)Don’t ride on sidewalks unless otherwise posted.
4)Obey crosswalks.
5)Use hand signals for turns, stopping or slowing down.
6)Ride on the right unless turning left or traveling through an intersection with the traffic, where you stay to the right in the through lane.
The Pathfinders also say - Please carry tools and an extra bicycle tube!

SKI/SNOWSHOE
DIAMOND HEAD, SQUAMISH - We will leave St. David`s Church in West Vancouver at 8.30am and carpool from there. A nice steady climb up to the Red Heather hut where we will have lunch and then go on up to Paul Ridge for the view.

CYCLING
RICHMOND LOOP - A perennial favorite – weather permitting, we will bike up Granville Ave. to Shell Rd Trail, down the trail to the dyke, past Finn Slough, London Farm and the Murakami Boat yard, and into Steveston for lunch. Distance is approximately 30 km. Phone leaders for meeting time and place.

HOLLYBURN MOUNTAIN - We will meet at the ticket office at 9.30am.
Do not buy trail tickets we do not need them. We will take the trail up
the mountain with a steep climb to begin with, but it flattens out for a while and then gets steep again.

CYCLE
GARRY POINT PARK TO McDONALD BEACH - This approximately 40 km cycle takes us on a flat moderate cycle along the East Dyke Trail from Garry Point Park on the south arm of the Fraser to McDonald Beach. We will cycle through Burkeville residential streets and secondary Vancouver International Airport roads, where the traffic is generally low in volume. McDonald Beach Park is where we will have a picnic lunch. Meet at Garry Point parking lot, just west of the Old Cannery in Steveston at 10:00 a.m. Bring a lunch. SNOWSHOE
NEEDLE PEAK, COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY -A steep climb at first, followed by a very pleasant trip along a ridge. Elevation gain about 600 metres, round trip about 10 km. Leave Tim Horton’s, Whatcom Rd, Abbotsford and Hwy 1 at 8.30 am.

FAT DOG MOUNTAIN, MANNING PARK - We will leave Tim Hortons on Whatcom Road on Highway No. 1 at 8.30am and carpool from there. This is a fairly challenging climb of about 800m. A round trip of about 14km.

KERRISDALE AREA -See the description of this cycle in Steel & Stalker’s Public Art in Vancouver (2009) book on page 49. You will see totem poles and Salish house posts, a replica of a rune memorial stone (Viking), the “Crab”, and Captain George Vancouver’s neighbourhood murals. Contact your leader for details of meeting place and time.

BLACK MOUNTAIN/EAGLE BLUFFS. -Weather caused cancellation in January. About 2 km to top; elevation gain of 1000 feet. Then, energy permitting, we can descend to Eagle Bluffs for a scenic lunch. Meet near downhill ticket office at 10 am, don’t buy tickets. If snow is not suitable, we will go on a lower level North Shore hike.

BOUNDARY BAY – DELTA -This flat 22 km cycle on paved roads and gravel dyke provides you with plenty of ocean and mountain views, tidal flats, lagoons and opportunities to spot shorebirds and water fowl near lovely Centennial Beach. A bonus for the cycle is a visit to the “Secret Garden”. Meet at the main terminal at Boundary Bay Airport parking lot (facing Churchill St.) at 10:00 a.m . Bring a lunch. Call by Thursday evening for details and confirmation.

MOUNT ZOA, COQUIHALLA - We will leave Tim Horton’s on Whatcom Road on Highway No. 1 at 8.30am and carpool from there. This is a fairly challenging climb of about 850m and a round trip of about 10km.

HIKE
DIEZ VISTAS – Elevation gain 1020 metres. Distance 15km. Time 6 hours. High Point 607 metres This trail runs along and above Indian Arm. There are some lookouts that give you views of Vancouver, Seymour Mountain and Indian Arm. Meet in the Buntzen Lake parking lot at 9.30am.

PITT LAKE A scenic ride along dikes and roads with a stop for lunch at beautiful Pitt Lake . About 30 km and all flat. Meet at 10:00 am at the parking lot on Harris Road immediately south of the Alouette River Bridge . From Lougheed Highway turn left on Dewdney Trunk Road just east of Pitt River Bridge . Turn left again on Harris Road . The ride will be in conjunction with the Outsetters Club. Call by Friday for details and confirmation.

NEEDLE PEAK, COQUIHALLA    This is a fairly strenuous snowshoe (about the same level of difficulty as Mt Zoa) that starts with a steep uphill followed by a more shallow grade along a ridge towards Needle Peak. Meet at Tim Horton’s on Whatcom Rd. Abbotsford at 8.30am and car pool from there.

HIKE
PETGILL LAKE. This hike is above Howe Sound, to a jewel-like lake. It’s in Dawn Hanna, hike #34.
Distance is 12 km., with an elevation gain of 610 metres. Meet at St David's, Taylor Way.9 am.

CLUB PICNIC Spring is here again and it's time to exercise in the morning and eat and socialize in the afternoon. Location is the same as before - Deas Island Park. Club will supply food as usual, we’ll be asking for volunteers to help put the barbecue together. Call by May 22 so that we know how many to cater for.
