Please note that Pathfinders Events are open to members in good standing who have completed an application and release form. Members and guests accompanying a member do so at their own risk.




Car Pool Rates
Out of town, more than an hour away, $20.00. Local, less than one hour away, $10.00.

Pathfinders Guidelines for Participants
1) Phone the trip leader by the Friday before the trip. If you must cancel, do so in plenty of time.
2) Obtain information from the leader to determine if the trip is within your capabilities.
3) Make sure your boots, clothing and equipment are appropriate for the activity.
4) Stay with the group. Make sure the leader or end-person knows where you are at all times, even if you simply step off the trail to answer “nature’s call”

CYCLISTS – REMEMBER YOUR CYCLING PROTOCOL
The BC Provincial Motor Vehicle Act says:-
1)Wear a bicycle helmet of an approved standard.
2)Ride single file on busy roads or highways.
3)Don’t ride on sidewalks unless otherwise posted.
4)Obey crosswalks.
5)Use hand signals for turns, stopping or slowing down.
6)Ride on the right unless turning left or traveling through an intersection with the traffic, where you stay to the right in the through lane.
The Pathfinders also say - Please carry tools and an extra bicycle tube!

DIAMOND HEAD – ELFIN LAKES
An old favourite with usually wonderful colours at this time of the year. Round trip to the shelter is 22 kms with an elevation gain of 2030 feet. Time 6.5 hours Meet at St. Davids church Upper Level Taylor Way. Contact leader for time. Leader: Larry Burton 604-277-6951

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 12
HIKE
EXCELSIOR RIDGE (MT. BAKER)
Another favourite for this time of the year. We climb 1500 feet up to the ridge and then take in the views of Mt. Shuksan and Baker and maybe even find some late blueberries to pick. Meet at the Ranger Station in Glacier at 9.00. Remember to bring passports and have medical insurance. Leader: Rick Krouskop 1-360-305-9928


SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 19
HIKE
ILLAL MEADOWS (COQUIHALLA)
We did this hike last year to rave reviews and it has been requested again for this summer. The round trip is 10 kms with an elevation gain of 1970 feet. It is a steady uphill climb through timber and over streams to reach the meadows where small tarns await us and 360 degree views. Meet at Tim Hortons (Whatcom Road exit) @ 8.00

FALSE CREEK SOUTH ART TOUR
See the description of this cycle in Steil and Stalker’s Public Art in Vancouver (2009) book on page 49. You’ll see everything from totem poles and Salish house posts to a replica of a rune memorial stone (Viking), to the “Crab”, to Captain George Vancouver to neighbourhood murals. BURKE RIDGE (COQUITLAM)
I am putting this hike in as it is close to town and I don’t think we have done it recently and will still give us a good work out. I understand that the Burke Mountain Naturalists have been working on some of the old trails. Elevation gain is 2920 feet and the round trip is 20 kms depending on how far we go. Description of trail is page 102 6th edition of 103 hikes. Phone leaders for time and meeting place.

BURNABY LAKE REGION
An interesting cycle through a variety of trails, roads, forests and parks ending at Burnaby Lake Nature Park (Bicycling Vancouver # 11 plus). Distance 30 km (4-5 hours). Meet at Burnaby City Hall located at 4949 Canada Way. Time 10:00 a.m. Bring your lunch. Call by Friday evening for details and confirmation.

SKYLINE DIVIDE (MT. BAKER)
Round trip is 6 miles and the elevation gain is 1700 feet. Most of you know this hike well and if you don’t then it is time to check it out again. Meet at the Ranger Station in Glacier at 9.00. Remember to bring your passports and medical insurance.

GARRY POINT PARK TO IONA BEACH
This 45 km cycle takes us on a flat, moderate cycle along the East Dyke Trail from Garry Point Park on the south arm of the Fraser River to Iona Beach Park and Jetty. We will cycle through Burkeville residential streets and secondary Vancouver International Airport roads, where the traffic is generally low in volume. McDonald Beach Park is where we will have a picnic lunch. Meet at Garry Point parking lot, just west of the Old Cannery in Steveston at 10:00 a.m. Bring a lunch. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23 -(PLEASE NOTE!!)

SOCIAL - IRISH CEILIDH

Once again the Doghouse band is putting on a Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-lee) at the Ladner Community Centre. Those who came last year had a great time accompanied by lots of laughing. It's sort of a barn dance with a caller telling you what to do. Lots of group dancing, so come along and have some fun. Call me by October 11 so I can get tickets (make a note of it on your calendar now!!)

CYCLE
POCO TRAIL – COQUITLAM & PORT COQUITLAM
Another favourite cycle! This 27 km cycle starts at Colony Farm Regional Park and Community Gardens, and includes trails along the Coquitlam River, Hyde Creek, and Pitt River, at times cycling through residential areas and urban parks. The trip is mostly flat with one section along the highway shoulder. Meet at 10:00 a.m. in the Colony Farm parking lot at the south end of Colony Farm Road, which is accessed off Lougheed Highway 7. CAMPBELL LAKE (HARRISON HOT SPRINGS)
We postponed this hike earlier this year due to inclement weather so lets try again. Round trip is 9 kms with an elevation gain of 2290 feet. Hopefully we will have views of the Cheam Range. Meet at Tim Horton’s (Whatcom Road exit) 9.00 am

As the days get shorter and potentially wetter we will look at hikes closer to home. For this one we will meet in the upper level parking lot of Cypress Bowl (downhill ski area) Bring change for parking.

VANCOUVER BAKERY TOUR
An “eat to ride or ride to eat” cycle past some of Vancouver’s tastiest bakeries and purveyors of dessert items (Bicycling Vancouver, Cycle by V. Bodegom, #15). Distance 35 km (4-5 hours). You may want to buy your lunch en route. Time 10:00 a.m.

ALICE LAKE PARK – FOUR LAKES TRAIL
Meet at St. Davids Church Upper Level (Taylor Way) 9.00 With only an elevation gain of 300 feet this is a walk rather than a hike. We start at Alice Lake and work our way around to Edith, Fawn and Stump lakes – hopefully finding them all.
